Yogo Yonaka, Scorpion Clan Shugenja
Technique: Blades of Wind Element: Air Mastery: 1 Effect: Creates a number of invisible, flying blades which can be directed to strike anything the caster can see. Each blade causes 1k1 damage and the number of blades created is equal to their Air ring. Raises can be used to increase the number of blades. Shadow Lash Element: Void Mastery 4 Effect: Creates a bolt of energy which causes massive damage to minions of the Living Darkness. Any Goju with less than 5 Shadow points will be outright destroyed. Manifestions and Goju with 5 points of Shadow take 5k5 damage. Enemies (Before corruption): Shiba Mienaku (After corruprion): Kakita Inyaku, Hida Chiru, Kuni Magensha, Shosuro Hikage, Yogo Junzo Allies (Before being corrupted): Kakita Inyaku, Hida Chiru, Shosuro Hikage, Isawa Uona, Yogo Junzo (After corruption): The Goju, Shiba Mienaku Physical Description: Yogo Yonaka is roughly 5'6" tall, has jet black hair, and strange grey eyes. He typically wears simple black or white kimonos with the mon of the Yogo family on the back. At more formal occassions he wears either a crimson red kimono with black trimming and a black scorpion mon on the back or a white kimono with black trimming and a red Yogo mon on the back. Unlike many of Rokugan's shugenja, Yonaka wears his daisho and as learned how to use it. He is not particularly skilled with the katana but he does use the wakizashi quite well. Like all Scorpion clan members, Yonaka is never seen in public without his mask: a simple white mask which covers his entire face and bears the kanji for "truth" on the forhead. No one alive aside from Yogo Junzo, Soshi Bantaro, and Shiba Mienaku have seem him without the mask. This is for a good reason: one of his shadowbrands is on his forehead. During the day it is the kanji for "truth," but when the sun falls in changes in the kanji for "lie." History: Yogo Yonaka was born 22 years before the Scorpion Clan Coup. His mother and father were both shugenja, though neither possessed his natural talent for it. He was raised from the age of 8 by the Yogo school so he never really got to know his parents. Time and again he proved himself to be a very talented shugenja- the air kami seemed to bend to his will with only the smallest persuation. Unfortunately, the son of the Yogo daimyo, Junzo, was a student at the same time. While both were amazingly skilled, Yogo Junzo was always just a few steps ahead. Rather than compete with Junzo head to head, Yonaka chose to cultivate an alliance with the future Yogo daimyo. He has become one of Yogo Junzo's most trusted advisors, though the two are by no means friends. After his gempukku, Yogo Yonaka was selected to become the Guardian of the Seventh Black Scroll. To aid him in his duties he was given his first shadowbrand. For another two years he lived at Yogo Shiro, cultivating his mastery of Air. He was then selected to become a sort of exchange student to the Isawa School of Air. It was there where he met his true love Shiba Mienaku and her brother Yusuke. Mienaku was a beautiful Shiba bushi who had decided to become the Yojimbo of her own older brother, who had become a shugenja, unlike most of the Shiba. To make a long story short, Mienaku and Yonaka fell in love and confessed as much to Yusuke. Yusuke, having become Yonaka's friend, attempted to convince his father that a marriage between the two would be very beneficial to both families. Yusuke and Mienaku's father reluctantly agreed... on the condition that Yonaka defeat Yusuke in a contest of Tairyu-Jiai. Yonaka agreed to the terms readily, knowing full well that he was stronger than Mienaku's brother. However, just before the duel began, Yonaka received a message via a Shosuro Shinobi that he was to "accidentally" kill Yusuke in their duel. Normally Yonaka would not have hesitated for even an instant, however, Mienaku was very fond of her brother, and killing him- even on accident- would certainly earn her hatred. Yonaka was so distracted that he almost lost the duel to Yusuke, however, the sun went down just has Yonaka began an offensive designed to provide him with more time to think. The power of his shadowbrand flooded through him and heightened his power enough that it shattered Yusuke's defense and cut his head from his shoulders. Yonaka had unintentionally done just as his clan asked him to. Needless to say, Mienaku was not pleased. She declared a blood fued the very next day. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), Yonaka had already departed for Yogo Shiro. The two would not meet again for two years. For the next two years Yonaka travelled with a group of inexperienced bushi and shugenja from various clan. For a time he pretended to be one of them... fresh from his gempukku. His deception was very carefully maintained and to this day no one save himself and Yogo Junzo know what its purpose was. Eventually he received a second shadowbrand, and thus earned the attetion of the Living Darkness. It offered him many things while he slept: power, wealth, knowledge... But none of that interested him. He resisted the call of the Darkness until it discovered the one thing he desired: Shiba Mienaku. It seduced them both and with the help of a Goju known only as the servant, they stole the Seventh Black Scroll and went in search of allies to help cast the spell that would annihilate the Imperial Captitol itself. Yonaka's former allies were forced to hunt him down to a gaijin fortress just past Sorrow's Path where they confronted him. The Servant proved to be more powerful than the young Rokugani had anticipated as it easily outfought and paralyzed them. It was then when Yonaka and Mienaku broke free of the Living Darkness for a moment and realized what they were doing. Yonaka used all that remained of his power to fortify Mienaku's blade and she used it to destroy the Servant once and for all. Inyaku, Chiru, Magensha, and Hikage left Yonaka and Mienaku in the castle out of respect for what they had done. The two of them were badly injured and no one believed that they would live until morning. Advantages: Kharmic Tie (Shiba Mienaku), Innate (Essense of Air, Tempest of Air, Blades of Wind, Shadow Lash, Commune, Summon, Sense, Forget, Sympathetic Energies), 2 Shadowbrands Disadvantages: True Love (Shiba Mienaku), Sworn Enemy (Shiba Mienaku), Driven (gain Mienaku's forgiveness), Dark Secret (one of the Twelve, corrupted by the Living Darkness), the Yogo Curse Special Equipment:Yonaka's Mask: Yonaka wears a plain white mask with the kanji for truth of the forehead. At first glance one would assume it to be porcelain, however, it is in fact painted steel. It allows Yonaka to raise a number of times equal to his Air ring rather than his Void. Black Wind from the Soul: In my campaign this was the Black Scroll Yonaka was entrusted with. When he joined the Living Darkness, he stole it from it's hiding place with the intent of using it to destroy Otosan Uchi.
