History:

This character was developed from: TSR's Catacomb Books, "Knight of the Living Dead" Memory Trace: B

Formerly a Paladin in service to Torm, Allyn Brightbeard's powers and abilities were lost for killing his companions, both fellow Tormtars, in a fit of jealous rage.

Torm, himself, struck him down for that, but would not allow his spirit to be released and instructed him to remember his First Oath when the liches raised him as an undead. After an indeterminate amount of time he was thus raised.

The mission given him by the liches, Abraxa and Haurrant, was to collect any and all magic items in and around Waterdeep and take them to an underground construct. There were also a group of people he was supposed to kill. Instead, he followed his God's instruction and got them all to safety, even became close friends with two of them. Throughout that night, he was given small glimpses of memories of his life before undeath and eventually gained the knowledge necessary to destroy the underground construct which was to be a Gate for some VERY EVIL being to gain access to the world at large.

After slaying the liches, the construct collapsed, thereby defeating their plans to destroy Waterdeep, for which Torm brought him back to life to atone for:
  1. Spilling innocent blood (namely Karl, a fellow Knight-Paladin, and Karinna, Torm's most faithful Priestess),
  2. Allowing jealousy to cloud his judgment, and,
  3. Losing control of his temper/actions.
His actual age is unknown as the time spent in undeath is not known (estimated 600 years, give or take a century or two). For gaming purposes, rolled up as 29, and is effectively 31.

"When I was brought back to life, I was wearing only a simple tunic, was weaponless, and just north of Waterdeep.

"I apprenticed under a weaponsmith in Waterdeep for 2 years, living in a spare room in the back of the shop. Before taking me in, he asked that I demonstrate my ability; I made this dagger, which I now carry. (Masterwork, has an exceptionally keen edge, which confers a non-magical +1 to damage.)

"After 19 months, my mentor presented me with the Long-sword, also Masterwork. I had marveled at it during its various stages of development, but thought it was just another special order for any of a number of his clientele. Needless to say, I was caught completely off-guard when he gave it to me. It was in a beautifully-tooled leather scabbard.

"Since coming to Waterdeep, I had became close friends with the wizard, Kappiyan Flurmastyr, and his apprentice, Shalara, they were among the group I was to kill that fateful night and instead, rescued. So elated at receiving the sword, I immediately went over to show it to them. Later that week, Kappiyan asked that I leave it with him for "a day or three." When I retrieved it a week-and-a-half later, there was a closed, raised fist, the symbol of Torm, at the base of the blade. Neither they, nor my mentor acknowledged knowing how it got there, so I assume it was to serve as a reminder. They did tell me, however, that "It is now particularly useful against the likes of what I was up against that night." It seems Waterdeep's secret ruling council, Kappiyan, and my mentor collaborated to do this as thanks for what I did for the city.

"The Necklace of Adaptation was found at the docks near a ghoul with a merman's harpoon in it's back. I stowed it and a torch (retrieved from some undead juggler's at the theater) in a safe place and recovered them later. I was also able to recover some of the other magic-items from the underground construct before it collapsed. Though it took a few weeks, they were all returned to their rightful owners.

"I have vague, almost dreamlike, memories of a conversation involving a place called Vaasa and a demon called Orcus. I have the feeling, growing ever-stronger, that I should go there. Is that where he next plans to destroy or enter through? If so, he must be stopped. And what of the construct? It had collapsed, but are the remaining magic items still there? Are they any good?

"Oh, the Long-sword: +2 +3 vs regenerating creatures +4 vs undead (double damage (2d8+4) vs liches)

"Light emanations vary; from normally faint (only seen in darkness) to Very Bright (30' illumination, 15' in magical darkness) - varies with the strength of the undead's power. If sheathed, it vibrates...with intensity varying similar to light emanations.

Special Equipment:
Necklace of Adaptation
Ring of Invisibility & Inaudibility
Rings of Readiness (one on sword's hilt)
Torch - Lights when upright, extinguishes when turned upside-down. The lights causes spectres to flee.
